Governor Adeleke Establishes ₦500 Million Election Violence Relief Fund

Governor Ademola Adeleke established a 10-member committee on August 24, 2026, to oversee the disbursement of a ₦500 million Election Violence Victims Relief Endowment Fund. The fund follows the August 15 governorship election, which was marked by significant instability, including 73 violent incidents and 29 deaths according to a Kimpact Development Initiative report.

Chaired by Adewale Olumide Egbedun, Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, the committee includes representatives from the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services, civil society organizations, and the Ministries of Information and Justice. The group is tasked with receiving petitions and supporting documents to verify claims from individuals who suffered losses, injuries, or displacement. Governor Adeleke stated the fund would support verified victims regardless of their political affiliation, religion, ethnicity, gender, or social status.

The initiative comes as violence persisted even after the polls. On August 24, a clash at the Naira and Kobo Garage in Ikire reportedly left five people dead. The administration emphasized that the fund must be administered transparently and fairly to assist citizens affected by the unrest.
