Blockchain.com Files for CFTC Licenses and Confidential IPO
Blockchain.com has applied for U.S. regulatory licenses to offer event contracts and derivatives while confidentially filing for an IPO.
Blockchain.com has filed for two licenses with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to launch event contracts and cryptocurrency derivatives for retail and institutional customers in the United States. The company is seeking designation as a futures exchange through a designated contract market license and registration as a futures commission merchant.
CEO Peter Smith stated the expansion intends to let users manage digital assets, trade derivatives, and take positions on real-world events within a single application. This move follows the company's international deployment of perpetual futures via Hyperliquid and prediction markets via Polymarket.
In a separate strategic move, the digital asset platform has confidentially filed for an initial public offering with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The company is targeting a valuation between $4 billion and $6 billion.
