OpenAI Hires Former Meta Executive to Lead Asia-Pacific Growth

OpenAI hired Sandhya Devanathan, a former executive at Meta Platforms Inc., to lead its operations across Southeast Asia and Australia. Based in Singapore starting in October, Devanathan will report to Asia-Pacific managing director Kiran Mani in a newly created role overseeing enterprise adoption, consumer growth, partnerships, and regulatory engagement.

The appointment is part of a broader strategy to capture growth in high-population markets. The company is specifically targeting Indonesia and the Philippines, both of which currently rank among the top 10 global markets for ChatGPT users.

This expansion follows a two-year period of regional growth during which the company opened offices in Tokyo, Seoul, Sydney, New Delhi, and Singapore.
