Amit Shah Dismisses Vote Theft Claims, Predicts 30-Year BJP Rule

Home Minister Amit Shah dismissed opposition allegations of vote theft and claimed the Congress party will not form a central government for the next 30 years.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah dismissed allegations of "vote chori" (vote theft) and collusion between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Election Commission during an event in New Delhi on October 22, 2026. Shah asserted that the Congress party would not form a central government for the next 30 years, arguing that opposition claims of electoral fraud are merely excuses for electoral losses. He cited recent opposition victories in Kerala, Telangana, and Himachal Pradesh as evidence that the electoral process remains fair.

In response, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh stated that vote theft is a "proven reality." Ramesh alleged that the Election Commission of India illegally altered forms to create barriers for new voters and facilitate targeted deletions from electoral rolls, characterizing the government's denials as a distraction.

During the same event, Shah launched river cleaning projects worth Rs 8,941 crore aimed at cleaning the Yamuna river by May 2029. He blamed previous Congress and Aam Aadmi Party governments for sewage discharge into the river. Shah also targeted the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, citing a prevalent drug menace and predicting a National Democratic Alliance victory in upcoming state elections to end drug trafficking.
