Jena Griswold and Amanda Gonzalez Win Colorado State Races
Colorado voters elected Jena Griswold as attorney general and Amanda Gonzalez as secretary of state in Tuesday's elections.
Colorado voters elected Secretary of State Jena Griswold as the state's next attorney general on Tuesday. According to Associated Press projections, the Democrat won approximately 59% of the vote, defeating Republican Michael Allen, the El Paso County District Attorney, who received 40% with 72% of precincts reporting.
Griswold pledged to pursue cases related to consumer protection, public safety, and civil rights, as well as continue challenging federal policies. Allen had campaigned on the premise that the office should prioritize crime victims and public safety over political litigation.
In a separate race, Democrat Amanda Gonzalez, the Jefferson County clerk and recorder, was elected as Colorado's next secretary of state. Gonzalez defeated Republican James Wiley to replace the term-limited Griswold. Gonzalez intends to improve the TRACER campaign finance disclosure system and maintain current voting options, whereas Wiley had advocated for a return to an absentee ballot system and primarily in-person voting.
