Taiwan Exports Hit Record $87.2 Billion on AI Demand
Taiwan recorded a record $87.2 billion in exports in September, driven by global demand for AI semiconductors and servers.
The Ministry of Finance of Taiwan reported that exports reached a record high of $87.2 billion in September, representing a 60.9% year-on-year increase. This growth marks the 35th consecutive month of expansion and was primarily driven by surging global demand for artificial intelligence hardware, including advanced semiconductors and servers produced by domestic companies like TSMC and Hon Hai Precision Industry.
Imports also rose 51.7% to $63.6 billion, resulting in a record trade surplus of $23.6 billion. The United States remained the largest export market with shipments exceeding $27.5 billion, while exports to ASEAN member countries reached a record $18.9 billion.
The Ministry of Finance attributes the surge to the expansion of AI infrastructure and expects the momentum to persist through the end of the year. This forecast is supported by anticipated peak purchasing seasons in the United States, Europe, and China.
