PTI Announces Nationwide Protests for Imran Khan's Release

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf will launch nationwide rallies and a long march on August 5 to demand the release of imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary committee has announced a nationwide movement beginning August 5, coinciding with the third anniversary of former Prime Minister Imran Khan's imprisonment. The campaign, detailed by interim chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and General Secretary Salman Akram Raja, will feature public meetings, demonstrations, and a long march to demand Khan's release. The party plans to consult with Mehmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas to finalize the protest activities.

Imran Khan remains in solitary confinement at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi after being convicted of corrupt practices in the Tosha Khana case and the Al-Qadir University Project Trust case. Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, recently petitioned the Supreme Court of Pakistan to suspend their convictions and order their release, citing serious health concerns and the mental stress of solitary confinement. This follows a rejection of similar requests by the Islamabad High Court in May.

PTI leadership has criticized the government for allegedly denying Khan proper medical care and access to family and lawyers since December 2025. The decision to mobilize follows calls from Aleema Khan, the former prime minister's sister, to intensify efforts to secure his freedom and seek justice.
