DMK Leader A. Raja Withdraws Insults Against Tamil Nadu Minister

DMK Member of Parliament and Deputy General Secretary A. Raja withdrew derogatory remarks made against Tamil Nadu Minister for Energy Resources and Law C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar on September 13, 2026. The incident occurred during a DMK protest in Chennai targeting Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and the ruling TVK party.

The conflict began when Minister Nirmal Kumar questioned the 1976 MISA detention of DMK president M.K. Stalin, suggesting the detention resulted from the harassment of women. In response, Raja questioned the minister's paternity and identity. The comments drew condemnation from the Congress, VCK, and CPI(M), with CPI(M) State Secretary P. Shanmugam describing the remarks as insults to women.

While Raja expressed regret in a post on X and stated he had no hesitation in taking back his words, he maintained a combative stance, warning the minister to mend his ways. Minister Nirmal Kumar dismissed the apology as obscene drama and accused M.K. Stalin of instigating the attack, claiming the DMK resorts to violence or obscene speech when faced with questions about corruption and betrayal.
