Slack Launches Slack Code for Collaborative AI Development

Slack launched Slack Code to integrate AI coding agents into group channels, allowing teams to collaboratively monitor and review software development in real time.

Slack launched Slack Code, a new product that integrates AI coding agents directly into dedicated channels to move software development from private terminals into a multiplayer environment. The platform allows teams to collaboratively monitor, steer, and review code through project-specific channels that feature live previews, code diffs, and searchable audit trails.

Slack integrated agents from several partners, including Anthropic's Claude Code, Cognition's Devin, GitHub Copilot, and Vercel. To maintain security, the system inherits the permissions of the user who invokes the agent. The launch marks a strategic pivot for parent company Salesforce, moving away from defensive data policies toward a partner-driven ecosystem.

Interim CEO Rob Seaman stated that the tool aims to shift the bottleneck of software development from writing code to human judgment, taste, and craft. VP of Product Katie Steigman added that the multiplayer nature of the channels serves as a guard against low-quality AI output because team members can see and comment on the work in real time.
