Google Launches AI-Powered Google Pics Design Tool

Google launched Google Pics, an AI-powered image creation and editing tool designed for producing posters, flyers, presentations, and social media graphics via text prompts. The tool is powered by the Gemini AI and the Nano Banana image-generation model, allowing users to generate multiple design variations or upload existing images as a starting point for AI editing.

Key features include object segmentation for targeted edits, the ability to upscale images to 4K, and the capacity to edit or translate embedded text across 29 languages while preserving original fonts. The software also supports collaborative editing and allows users to isolate and transform specific objects without regenerating the entire image.

Google Pics is available as a standalone site and is being integrated into the Google Workspace suite. Integration began immediately with Google Docs and Google Slides, with a rollout to Google Drive planned for the coming weeks. The service is available to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, AI Pro for Education users, and Workspace customers on Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus plans. The launch positions Google in direct competition with AI design features from Canva and Adobe Express.
