IMF Upgrades Azerbaijan Current Account Surplus Forecasts
The International Monetary Fund raised its current account surplus projections for Azerbaijan for 2026 and 2027 following strong first-half results.
The International Monetary Fund upgraded its forecasts for Azerbaijan's current account surplus for 2026 and 2027. The organization now expects the surplus to reach 11.3% of GDP in 2026 and 9.8% of GDP in 2027, marking a significant increase from its May projections of 9.7% and 5.4%, respectively.
These revisions follow first-half 2026 results, which estimated the surplus at $4.738 billion, or 12.4% of GDP. Other financial institutions provide differing estimates for the period. Fitch Ratings forecasts a surplus of 10.9% of GDP in 2026 and 6.2% in 2027.
The Central Bank of Azerbaijan provided its own projections, estimating figures of $5.5 billion for 2026 and $4.4 billion for 2027.
