Market Rotation Shifts Away From AI Large-Cap Stocks

Bespoke Investment Group reports a market divergence as investors rotate away from overbought AI large-cap stocks toward oversold small-cap equities.

Market data reveals a growing divergence between large-cap and small-cap equities, marked by a rotation away from artificial intelligence stocks. According to analysis by Bespoke Investment Group, large-cap index ETFs entered Tuesday trading in overbought territory and remained positioned above their 50-day moving averages.

While the cap-weighted S&P 500 maintained stability throughout September, this performance was driven primarily by mega-caps and AI infrastructure stocks, including semiconductors. This concentration masked a broader trend where the average stock experienced a significant decline during the same period.

In contrast to the strength of mega-cap equities, small-cap and micro-cap stocks have trended lower, reaching oversold levels. This shift indicates a decoupling of performance between the dominant AI-driven leaders and the broader market of smaller companies.
