Apple and LG Partner on New Smart Home Lineup
Apple Inc. and LG Electronics are collaborating on a suite of LG-branded smart home devices to integrate with a new Siri AI-enabled hub.
Apple Inc. is rebooting its HomeKit platform through a second-party development partnership with LG Electronics. The collaboration will produce a lineup of LG-branded smart home hardware, including a video doorbell, thermostat, indoor and outdoor security cameras, a floodlight camera, and a deadbolt lock.
The new deadbolt lock utilizes ultra-wideband technology to automatically unlock as users approach their doors. These devices are designed to integrate with a rumored Apple smart home hub, which reportedly features a six-inch display and Siri AI capabilities. Apple is expected to launch this hub during an event on October 13.
This product expansion coincides with a broader update to the HomeKit ecosystem, with several new devices supporting the Matter and Thread smart home protocols to improve interoperability.
