Venu Srinivasan Requests Inquiry Into Tata Trust Governance
Venu Srinivasan has asked the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner to investigate alleged power grabs and governance violations within the Sir Dorabji and Sir Ratan Tata Trusts.
Trustee and vice-chairman Venu Srinivasan has requested that the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner launch an inquiry into the governance of the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the Sir Ratan Tata Trust. Srinivasan alleges a "power grab" within the organizations, claiming he was excluded from key decision-making processes. He specifically cited a September 16 resolution intended to prevent him from voting on the proposed listing of Tata Sons.
Srinivasan is challenging the chairmanship and perpetual trustee status of Noel Tata, as well as the appointment of Noel's son, Neville Tata, as a trustee. He argues that the trusts have become overly involved in the commercial and strategic affairs of Tata Sons, including proposals to provide liquidity to the Shapoorji Pallonji Group. According to Srinivasan, these actions are inconsistent with charitable objectives and could jeopardize the trusts' tax-exempt status.
This request for an inquiry follows a May directive from the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner that barred the Sir Ratan Tata Trust from making decisions due to previous governance allegations. Srinivasan has called for the suspension or removal of trustees if the investigation finds governance violations.
