Letitia Plummer Wins Harris County Judge Election
Letitia Plummer defeated Orlando Sanchez to become the first Black woman elected as Harris County judge.
Letitia Plummer won the election for Harris County judge, defeating Republican opponent Orlando Sanchez. Unofficial results show Plummer secured 62% of the vote to Sanchez's 38%, making her the first Black woman to serve in the position.
Plummer, a dentist and former Houston City Council member, will lead the Harris County Commissioners Court. Her campaign emphasized public safety, government spending, and the need for stronger unity within the court. The governing body is responsible for managing the county budget, infrastructure, and flood control.
Orlando Sanchez, a former Harris County treasurer and Houston city controller, conceded the race shortly after 9 p.m. on Tuesday night. Sanchez had campaigned on a platform of slashing property taxes and implementing routine audits of county departments to address budget deficits.
