Union Minister Vows Punishment for Content Creator's Racial Slurs

Amir Shaukeen faces legal action and widespread condemnation after a viral video allegedly showed him racially harassing a youth from Tripura in Delhi.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju vowed that Delhi and Tripura police would teach content creator Amir Shaukeen a "hard lesson" after a viral video showed Shaukeen allegedly racially harassing a youth from Tripura. The video sparked outrage across Northeast India for mocking the youth's physical features with terms such as "Chinese," "chinky," and "China president."

Tripura political leaders, including Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury and Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, demanded Shaukeen's arrest and rejected an apology issued by the creator. The Youth Tripura Federation filed a formal complaint at the NCC Police Station in Agartala, accusing Shaukeen of cyberbullying, hate speech, and defamation. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha directed the state's Director General of Police to coordinate with the Delhi Police to ensure legal action.

Shaukeen issued an apology via Facebook, claiming the video was a scripted, light-hearted exchange between himself and an acquaintance who had worked at a café in Ahmedabad. He stated he had no intention of insulting the people of Tripura and that brotherhood remained his top priority. Despite these claims, Minister Rijiju asserted that the "evil man will be punished," acknowledging a delay in the official complaint but insisting on prosecution.
