Google Releases Android 17 QPR1 and QPR2 Beta Updates

Google released two separate Android 17 beta updates for Pixel devices between July 31 and August 4, 2026. The Android 17 QPR1 Beta 8 update serves as a preview for the September Feature Drop and focuses on critical system performance and bug fixes. Key corrections in this build address an audio framework buffer management issue that caused loud corruption and static, alongside failures in fingerprint authentication and NFC service regressions that blocked tags from reading data.

This QPR1 build also resolves connectivity issues with the Pixel Tablet Speaker Dock. Notably, QPR1 Beta 8 continues to support the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, maintaining compatibility for these older devices.

Simultaneously, the company released Android 17 QPR2 Beta 2 for devices ranging from the Pixel 6a to the Pixel 10 series, including the Pixel 10a. Unlike the QPR1 update, QPR2 Beta 2 launched without an initial changelog. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are excluded from this specific track as they fall outside the supported window for the QPR2 update, which is expected to reach a stable release by December 2026.
