BYD to Unveil First Humanoid Robots in August

BYD plans to debut interactive humanoid robots in August at its Di Space centers, challenging Tesla's Optimus project in the Chinese market.

Electric vehicle manufacturer BYD will unveil its first humanoid robots in August at the company's Di Space experience centers. The robots are designed to interact with visitors in immersive showrooms and are described as more than mere concept products.

This development follows substantial investments in artificial intelligence and robotics. Stella Li, BYD Executive Vice-President, predicted that China would be the first market to achieve full commercialization of humanoid robots. BYD joins other Chinese automotive firms, including Xpeng, Li Auto, and Xiaomi, in developing robotics for logistics, factory work, hospitality, and elderly care.

These advancements create a direct challenge to Tesla and its Optimus project. Tesla's China president, Allan Wang Hao, previously indicated that the Shanghai Gigafactory could eventually manufacture these robots to support Elon Musk's objective of transforming Tesla into a physical AI company.
