Revanth Reddy Returns to Hyderabad Amid Travel Ban and Party Feuds

A. Revanth Reddy, the Chief Minister of Telangana, returned to Hyderabad on August 24, 2026, after cutting short an overseas tour. While Reddy completed a three-day visit to London to discuss educational partnerships with the University of Cambridge and Oxford University, the central government denied permission for the second leg of his trip to the United States. Reddy and the Congress party claimed the denial was based on political considerations, a position supported by All India Congress Committee President Mallikarjun Kharge.

Upon his return, Reddy faced immediate internal party strife. The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee issued a show cause notice to Endowments Minister Konda Surekha after Surekha's daughter made remarks against the Chief Minister. Although Surekha argued she is not responsible for her daughter's personal views, more than 20 Congress legislators have demanded her removal from the Cabinet or other disciplinary action.

Simultaneously, the state government faces external pressure from the opposition. Telangana BJP president N. Ramchander Rao began a two-day fast on August 24 to protest the government's failure to provide pending tuition fee reimbursements to students.
