Halifax Closes 15 UK Branches and Transitions to Lloyds Brand

Halifax is closing 15 UK bank branches through November and phasing out its brand identity to consolidate under Lloyds Banking Group by 2027.

Halifax is closing 15 bank branches across the United Kingdom over a 10-week period, with shutdowns scheduled for September and additional closures planned for October and November. This follows the closure of 25 branches in June. These moves are part of a broader strategy by parent company Lloyds Banking Group to pivot toward online banking as physical branch usage declines. The group is also closing several Lloyds Bank and Royal Bank of Scotland branches throughout August and September.

As part of a branding consolidation, nearly 200 Halifax sites will become Lloyds branches in 2027, eventually removing the Halifax brand from remaining stores. The bank stated that decisions on the future of branches are based on factors including customer banking habits and the availability of nearby services.

The closures affect sites in multiple locations, including London (Camden Town), Milton Keynes, Guildford, and Wimbledon. The Civil Service Pensioners' Alliance criticized the move, stating that the closures are creating real barriers to everyday financial independence for pensioners who rely on face-to-face banking.
