Alphabet and AMD Lead AI Infrastructure Growth
Alphabet Inc. and AMD are emerging as primary beneficiaries of the AI boom through custom hardware development and surging data center revenue.
Market analysts identify Alphabet Inc. and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) as primary beneficiaries of the artificial intelligence boom. Alphabet is integrating large language models like Gemini into Google Search and YouTube while collaborating with Broadcom Inc. to develop custom Tensor Processing Units to reduce its reliance on Nvidia Inc. This strategy coincides with strong financial performance, as Alphabet's Google Cloud division reported 82% revenue growth in the second quarter, fueled by third-party demand for AI computing power.
AMD has established itself as a significant challenger in the AI accelerator market, reporting second-quarter data center revenue of $6.7 billion, a 107% year-over-year increase. The company has secured large-scale GPU commitments from Meta, OpenAI, and Anthropic.
CEO Lisa Su projects the AI accelerator market will reach $1.4 trillion by 2030 and expects data center revenue to more than double in 2027. Despite this trajectory, AMD faces headwinds from U.S. export controls on shipments to China and a high price-to-earnings multiple relative to Nvidia.
