Australian Labor Party Support Drops to 27 Percent

Support for the Australian Labor Party has fallen to a new low, with its primary vote dropping to 27 percent according to a Newspoll of 1,244 voters. This figure marks a significant decline from the 37 percent support the center-left government held one year ago.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has seen his personal approval ratings weaken as the government struggles with economic pressures. In contrast, the One Nation party, led by Pauline Hanson, now maintains the largest share of support among voters at approximately 30 percent.

The decline in popularity coincides with expectations that the central bank will implement another interest rate hike next week to combat high inflation. This inflation has been exacerbated by rising fuel costs resulting from the US-Iran war.
