Google Launches AI Initiatives and Public Sector Partnerships in India
Google unveiled new AI tools for healthcare and education and partnered with pi-labs to provide sovereign AI solutions for India's public sector.
During the Google I/O Connect India 2026 summit in Bengaluru, Google announced a wide array of artificial intelligence initiatives targeting developers, startups, and public institutions. A primary focus of the summit was the expansion of the Gemini Live tool to support 25 Indian languages and the introduction of ATL Saathi to assist teachers.
In the public sector, Google Cloud entered a strategic collaboration with pi-labs to deploy secure, mission-ready AI solutions for government institutions using the Google Distributed Cloud Tactical Appliance. In healthcare, researchers at AIIMS Delhi are employing MedGemma models to create diagnostic tools for reproductive health and leprosy. To foster long-term technical skill, Google DeepMind partnered with NASSCOM and the Indian Institute of Science to launch the AI Research Foundations curriculum.
Addressing the summit, Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar noted the company's impact on knowledge access and government service delivery. Google also highlighted the economic impact of its ecosystem, reporting that Android and the Play Store contributed approximately Rs 5.3 lakh crore to the Indian economy in 2025.
