Punjab Vidhan Sabha Passes Resolution Against Electoral Roll Revision
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led a legislative resolution to scrap the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, alleging vote manipulation by the BJP.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann demanded the scrapping of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls during a Friday session of the Vidhan Sabha. Mann accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of manipulating electoral rolls to favor its own candidates and deleting opposition voters, a process he described as "vote chori" or vote theft.
Mann claimed that irregularities in the electoral rolls were used to win elections in Bihar, West Bengal, Haryana, and Maharashtra. He warned that a dictatorship has seized control of the four pillars of democracy and criticized the Union government for using central investigative agencies and obstructing international investment efforts in Punjab.
The Punjab Vidhan Sabha subsequently passed a resolution against the SIR by a voice vote. Mann asserted that the right to vote is not a favor bestowed by any government and that any process determining voter eligibility must be transparent, fair, and accountable.
