CERT-In and Google Warn of AI-Driven Cyber Attack Surge
The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team and Google warn that frontier AI is enabling cybercriminals to execute faster, more autonomous attacks on vulnerable organizations.
Cybersecurity authorities and industry leaders are warning that frontier artificial intelligence is fundamentally reshaping the global threat landscape by lowering the technical threshold for attackers. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) issued a high-severity alert stating that next-generation AI allows criminals to operate with unprecedented speed and autonomy, enabling the independent identification of software vulnerabilities and the execution of multi-stage attacks. CERT-In identified micro, small, and medium enterprises as being particularly at risk.
Google Threat Intelligence further highlighted the use of AI-driven tools like HexStrike MCP, which provide guidance to attackers during intrusions. To counter these threats, Google is integrating its Gemini AI to analyze dark web chatter with higher accuracy and merging its intelligence capabilities into Wiz, a recently acquired cloud security company.
Beyond AI trends, Google reported disrupting IPidea, a residential proxy network used by over 500 threat actors, and identified a China-based espionage campaign targeting governments and telecommunications providers across 42 countries. Experts emphasized that the increased accessibility of AI-driven vulnerability scanning creates an urgent necessity for organizations to implement robust patch management and continuous network monitoring to prevent exploitation.
