India's Ministry of Defence Denies DRDO Cybersecurity Breach

The Ministry of Defence of India dismissed media reports of a recent cybersecurity breach at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), describing the claims as incorrect and unverified. Following an investigation by ministry agencies, officials stated there is no evidence of an active cyber attack, unauthorized network intrusion, or ongoing data exfiltration.

Investigators determined that the data being sold by threat actors on the dark web is primarily unclassified and lacks confidentiality. The ministry clarified that the documents presented as critical were fabrications based on an old breach that occurred between 2020 and 2022.

Officials asserted that these outdated documents are no longer representative of current configurations and were manipulated by actors to appear recent and sensitive. The government maintains that these actors sought financial gain and attempted to cause panic through the circulation of the files. The Ministry of Defence concludes that DRDO systems remain secure and no classified information has been compromised.
