Dangote Refinery Boosts Local Petrol Supply to 35.9 Million Litres
Dangote Petroleum Refinery increased its daily petrol supply to Nigeria by 39 percent in August, reducing the country's reliance on imported refined products.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals Fze increased its daily supply of premium motor spirit to the Nigerian domestic market to 35.9 million litres in August, a 39 percent rise from 25.8 million litres in July. Operating at 105.21 percent capacity, the private refinery provided approximately 71 percent of total domestic receipts for the month.
Data from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority shows that crude receipts at domestic refineries rose 17 percent to 0.683 million barrels per day. While modular facilities like the Edo and Waltersmith refineries recorded production, the three state-owned refineries operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited remained non-operational.
This shift toward local refining coincided with a 26 percent drop in fuel imports, which fell from 19.7 million litres per day in July to 14.6 million litres per day in August, though some reports contradict this by claiming imports rose to 20.6 million litres. Simultaneously, overall domestic petrol consumption decreased by 14 percent, falling from 48.3 million litres per day to 41.5 million litres per day.
