US Bitcoin ETFs Record $681 Million Weekly Outflow
US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw $681.10 million in net outflows for the week ending October 9, ending a three-week period of institutional growth.
U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds experienced a sharp reversal in market sentiment, recording approximately $681.10 million in net outflows for the week ending October 9, 2026. This shift snapped a three-week streak that had seen inflows of about $2.6 billion.
Fidelity Investments and ARK 21Shares recorded the largest withdrawals, with Fidelity seeing approximately $380.36 million in outflows and ARK 21Shares losing $207.21 million. BlackRock remained the sole outlier among major issuers, registering a modest net inflow of $1.02 million.
Prior to this correction, institutional growth was driven by the basis trade and the debasement trade, the latter of which bet against the value of the U.S. dollar. The debasement trade gained momentum in mid-August 2026 after the U.S. Treasury Department announced it would double, and later triple, its buybacks of long-dated sovereign debt. While large private wallets increased holdings between July and September, recent volatility has led institutional investors to reduce their exposure.
