Jeff Bezos Outlines Lunar Goals and Orbital Data Center Plans
Jeff Bezos announced plans for a sustainable lunar base by 2028 and an application to launch 50,000 satellites for orbital data centers.
Jeff Bezos detailed a vision for space exploration and artificial intelligence during an interview at the Blue Origin factory in Cape Canaveral. He asserted that the United States must beat China to the moon, expressing confidence that a human landing and a sustainable lunar base are achievable by 2028.
To support these goals, Bezos announced that Blue Origin plans to return its New Glenn rocket to flight in December and is expanding its launch capacity with three additional pads. He also revealed Project Sunrise, an application submitted to the Federal Communications Commission to launch over 50,000 satellites to function as orbital data centers.
On the topic of AI, Bezos predicted double-digit productivity gains that could enable shorter workweeks for families, despite public concerns over job losses. He advocated for a light hand in regulating new technology, arguing that government oversight should target harmful applications rather than the technology itself.
