SEMI Projects Semiconductor Market to Hit $2 Trillion by 2030
Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International projects the global semiconductor market will double to $2 trillion by 2030, driven by artificial intelligence infrastructure demand.
The industry association Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International projects the global semiconductor market will exceed $2 trillion by 2030, doubling previous estimates of $1 trillion. This growth is fueled by artificial intelligence infrastructure, specifically increasing demand for advanced logic chips, high-bandwidth memory, and enterprise solid-state drives, which offsets continued pressure on smartphone and PC shipments.
Ahead of SEMICON Taiwan 2026, the organization revised its 2028 forecasts upward for several equipment sectors. Wafer fab equipment is now projected at $220 billion, testing equipment at $23.5 billion, and packaging equipment at $10 billion, reflecting heavy investments in 2-nanometer and 3-nanometer production.
While Taiwan is expected to maintain 30% of the market by 2027, industry leaders warned of systemic pressures. Tien Wu, CEO of ASE Technology Holding Co, noted that the rapid expansion of AI is straining Taiwan's available land, talent, capital, and electricity resources.
