Port of Long Beach Hits Record September Cargo Volume

The Port of Long Beach moved a record 997,177 containers in September 2026, driven by a surge in imports and exports.

The Port of Long Beach recorded its busiest month in history in September 2026, moving 997,177 20-foot-equivalent units (TEUs). This volume represents a 25% increase over September 2025 and surpasses the previous record set in October 2024. The growth was fueled by a 31.3% rise in imports, a 7.8% increase in exports, and a 22.1% increase in empty containers.

The neighboring Port of Los Angeles also experienced its busiest month on record during the same period, handling 1,042,652 containers. Through the first nine months of 2026, the Port of Long Beach has moved 7,675,255 TEUs, marking a 3.9% increase over the previous year.

CEO Noel Hacegaba indicated that the current peak season may last longer than expected. He outlined a long-term strategic goal to double annual cargo throughput to 20 million TEUs by 2050 while simultaneously achieving zero emissions.
