Nubank and Mercado Pago Halt Cryptocurrency Transfers
Nubank and Mercado Pago suspended cryptocurrency transfers on November 6 following service disruptions caused by external data providers.
Digital lenders Nubank and Mercado Pago, the fintech arm of MercadoLibre, halted cryptocurrency transfers on November 6. The disruptions forced Nubank to suspend all cryptocurrency withdrawals and deposits, while Mercado Pago blocked specific transfers to external wallets and warned customers of potential deposit delays.
Both companies attributed the outages to instability from external third-party providers. Nubank cited general instability from a data provider, while Mercado Pago specified that the incident affected a service provider responsible for risk monitoring and anti-money laundering. It is currently unclear if both firms were impacted by the same provider.
Both firms stated that client funds remain secure and noted that other cryptocurrency products continue to operate normally.
