Yair Lapid Pledges Equal Rights at Jerusalem Pride March
Opposition leader Yair Lapid joined 10,000 marchers in Jerusalem to demand LGBTQ+ legislative changes and promise equal rights for all couples.
Approximately 10,000 people participated in the 24th Jerusalem March for Pride and Tolerance on June 4, 2026. Organized by the Jerusalem Open House for Pride and Tolerance under the slogan Demanding Change, the event utilized a new route from Sacher Park to the Rose Garden, specifically passing the Supreme Court and the Knesset to emphasize calls for legislative reform.
Opposition leader Yair Lapid addressed the rally, framing the event as a critical political demonstration ahead of the October 27 elections. Lapid promised that a government under his leadership would legislate equal rights for all couples within its first 100 days in office. Other speakers, including Hadas Blomendal, characterized the march as a statement on human dignity and a demand for a society where equal rights are not privileges.
To maintain public order, the Israel Police deployed 2,000 officers and border agents. Law enforcement managed the crowd and handled a counter-demonstration organized by the extremist group Lehava. The event also included a commemoration of the 11th anniversary of the murder of 16-year-old Shira Banki.
