Local Governments in South Carolina and Oklahoma Debate Data Centers

Local government bodies in South Carolina and Oklahoma are convening a series of meetings to address the rapid development of data centers and their impact on local communities. In South Carolina, the Spartanburg County Public Safety Committee will hold a second hearing on September 9 to gather public comment and hear from additional speakers regarding data center projects.

Following the county hearing, Senator Josh Kimbrell will host a legislative update on September 14 at Inman City Hall to discuss statewide data center policies. These meetings indicate a coordinated effort to establish regulatory frameworks for the industry at both the local and state levels.

Meanwhile, in Oklahoma, the Grady County Board of Commissioners has scheduled a special meeting for September 8 at the Grady County Courthouse. The session will address a planned data center near Amber, following resident concerns over land purchased by Aligned Data Centers, LLC. The Oklahoma meeting focuses specifically on land acquisition and community opposition to the planning phase of the project.
