Saskatchewan Premier Supports Canada's $27.6 Billion U.S. Counter-Tariffs

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe announced his support for the Canadian federal government's strategy to implement counter-tariffs against the United States. Speaking in Prince Albert, Moe described the national approach as focused and targeted, though he cautioned that all tariffs negatively impact businesses, jobs, and consumers on both sides of the border.

The counter-tariffs take effect on September 8 and target $27.6 billion in U.S. imports. In Saskatchewan, the measures will affect $1.5 billion in annual imports from the U.S., representing 11.3 percent of the province's total imports from the country. Affected goods include natural honey, plywood, veneered panels, and harvesting or threshing machinery.

Moe stated that the province is currently analyzing the counter-tariff list to determine the potential impact on jobs and consumer prices. He added that the provincial government is reviewing federal support measures to ensure they effectively benefit Saskatchewan businesses and workers.
