U.S. Government Provides $4.2 Billion to Expand Vistra Nuclear Power
The United States government will provide $4.2 billion to Vistra Corp to increase electricity generation from its nuclear fleet to meet rising AI and data center demand.
The United States government plans to provide approximately $4.2 billion in financing to power producer Vistra Corp to increase electricity generation from its nuclear fleet. Energy Secretary Chris Wright is expected to announce the funding on Monday during a visit to a Vistra nuclear facility in Ohio.
The financing is intended to support the uprate of at least three of Vistra's four nuclear power stations. This expansion aims to address accelerating electricity demand driven by the growth of artificial-intelligence data centers, cryptocurrency mining, and broader electrification efforts. Vistra currently operates six reactors across four plants with a combined capacity exceeding 6.5 gigawatts.
