Indian Equity Benchmarks Rise Amid IT Sector Gains
Indian equity benchmarks opened higher on Friday as IT stocks rallied despite rising crude prices and a sell-off in US technology shares.
Indian equity benchmarks opened higher on Friday, October 23, 2026. The BSE Sensex rose approximately 373 points to 73,622.15, while the NSE Nifty 50 gained 0.19 percent to 22,731.40.
V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Investments Limited, noted that the market was supported by a decline in US 10-year bond yields and the appreciation of the rupee, which could restrain foreign institutional investor selling. These factors helped offset negative risks from Brent crude prices spiking to $114 per barrel and an overnight sell-off in US technology stocks.
The rally was primarily driven by the information technology sector, with Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, and HCL Technologies leading the gains. Market sentiment is expected to be further bolstered next week by the return of over Rs 3 lakh crore in liquidity following the Jio Platforms IPO allotment.
In contrast, eMudhra Technologies Limited saw its shares plummet roughly 36.5 percent. The decline followed a security incident involving the company's digital certificate authority keys.
