Nasdaq Composite Drops 5.3% Amid AI Stock Sell-Off
The Nasdaq Composite recorded its worst monthly performance since March 2025 as semiconductor and AI stocks plummeted while non-technology sectors gained.
The Nasdaq Composite fell 5.30% in October, marking its worst monthly performance since March 2025. The decline resulted from a severe sell-off in semiconductor and artificial intelligence stocks, with Intel dropping 45.20% and CoreWeave falling 38.05%. Among the Magnificent Seven, Alphabet, Meta Platforms, and Nvidia experienced double-digit losses, though Tesla, Apple, and Microsoft remained positive.
Broader market trends diverged from the technology sector. The Dow Jones Industrial Average and Russell 2000 ended the month with gains of 1.70% and 0.53%, respectively. Non-technology sectors showed strength, led by Lockheed Martin, which saw a 26.00% increase, and Eli Lilly.
Investors are now focusing on the November 2–6 earnings calendar. Reports from Apple, Palantir, and AMD are expected to provide clarity on whether technology stocks can stabilize based on growth and the profitability of AI spending.
