Russian Projectile Hits Moldovan Border Crossing Injuring Guard

A Russian projectile struck a passenger bus and border booth at the Palanca-Maiaky-Udobne crossing, injuring one Moldovan border guard during attacks on Ukraine.

A projectile fired during a Russian offensive against Ukrainian infrastructure struck a passenger bus and a border control booth at the Palanca-Maiaky-Udobne crossing on October 5, 2026. The incident occurred at approximately 9:38 a.m. local time when the projectile ricocheted off the ground, causing light injuries to one Moldovan border guard.

Maia Sandu, the President of Moldova, previously warned that Russia's war is "dangerously reaching Moldova" following a series of airspace violations and debris falls throughout September and October. This latest strike occurred amid a larger Russian operation involving 205 drones targeted at Ukraine, of which the Ukrainian Air Force reported destroying 172.

In response to the strike, Moldovan authorities suspended operations at the border crossing. The General Inspectorate of Police halted traffic at the junction of the R-30 and R-31 roads in the Stefan Voda district, redirecting vehicles to the Tudora crossing. The Border Police of the Republic of Moldova stated they are continuously monitoring the situation to keep it under control while maintaining contact with Ukrainian authorities.
