African Group Demands Foreign Military Exit, Condemns French Interference

The New African Charter International condemned foreign interference in Africa, demanding removal of all foreign military bases and permanent UN Security Council membership.

The New African Charter International (NACI) marked the 63rd anniversary of African Liberation Day on May 25, 2026, with a sweeping condemnation of foreign powers operating on the continent. Led by President Alimamy Bakarr Sankoh, the organization issued a statement under the theme 'AFRICA IS NOT A BACKYARD TO ANY FOREIGN POWERS,' directly accusing France of undermining African leaders and manipulating domestic affairs through the United Nations and the Franco-Mexican Initiative.

NACI demanded the immediate removal of all foreign military bases from African soil and called for the continent to receive permanent membership on the UN Security Council. The organization expressed strong solidarity with the Alliance of Sahel States, the regional bloc comprising Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, as well as with Madagascar. NACI characterized these nations as targets of separatist movements, terrorism, and foreign subversion orchestrated by outside powers.

The statement urged African leaders to reject neo-colonialism and instead pursue cooperative development partnerships with global powers such as Russia and China. NACI positioned the Alliance of Sahel States as the cornerstone of peace and stability in the Sahel region, pushing back against what it described as foreign efforts to destabilize member governments. The anniversary message framed the struggle against external influence as central to the continent's future sovereignty and development trajectory.
