Apple Launches Smart-Home Hub and AI Hardware Updates

Apple plans to enter the smart-home market on October 13 with the launch of a new home hub code-named J490. The device features a 6-inch square display and supports both wall-mounting and countertop placement, using member recognition to provide personalized content to household users.

Alongside the hub, the company will announce the first update to the HomePod mini since 2020 and its first new TV set-top box since 2022. While the HomePod mini and Apple TV will maintain their current designs, both will include faster processors designed to support revamped Siri AI models.

This hardware push follows the recent appointment of John Ternus as CEO. His background in hardware is expected to drive a renewed corporate focus on engineering and the deeper integration of artificial intelligence into physical devices.
