Upper Thames River Conservation Authority Proposes 2027 Budget
The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority released a draft 2027 budget ahead of its scheduled merger into a larger regional body.
The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority released its draft 2027 budget, projecting $28.8 million in operating costs and $7.1 million for capital projects. The budget was presented early to meet a provincial mandate requiring completion 30 days before a February 1 transition. This transition will consolidate 36 of Ontario's conservation authorities into nine larger bodies, a restructuring announced by the Ministry of Environment.
Under this plan, the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority will merge into the Western Lake Erie Regional Conservation Authority. Member municipalities are expected to provide $13,249,704 in contributions. The city of Stratford will contribute $1,240,529, with specific funding allocated for a Lake Victoria weir removal environmental assessment and the RT Orr Dam's north gate and safety boom.
General manager and secretary treasurer Tracey Annett presented the budget overview, noting that much of the planned work is scheduled for 2027. The budgets are slated for approval on October 6.
