Bulgaria Economy Grows 0.6 Percent in Second Quarter

The National Statistical Institute reported that Bulgaria's economy grew by 0.6% in the second quarter of 2026. According to a flash estimate released August 14, the gross domestic product for the April-June period reached 29.68 billion euro, marking a 2.7% increase on a year-on-year basis.

Growth was primarily supported by a 1.6% quarterly increase in domestic consumption and a 1.8% rise in gross fixed capital formation. Trade performance showed mixed results; while exports grew by 3.1% compared to the first quarter, they declined 2.8% compared to the same period in 2025. Imports decreased by 3% quarterly but rose 6.9% annually.

Bulgaria recorded a trade deficit of 1.15 billion euro for the quarter, representing 3.9% of the national GDP. The agency is scheduled to release preliminary growth figures on September 7.
