ADC Accuses Ruling APC of Pressuring INEC Chairman
The African Democratic Congress alleges that the ruling All Progressives Congress is pressuring the Independent National Electoral Commission ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The African Democratic Congress alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission and its Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, are facing intense pressure from the ruling All Progressives Congress as preparations for the 2027 general elections begin.
National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi stated that the commission is conflicted between maintaining institutional independence and yielding to political influence. Abdullahi characterized both the electoral commission and the judiciary as being on trial, suggesting that the current political environment puts the integrity of these institutions at risk.
Abdullahi urged Prof. Amupitan to ensure the commission's loyalty remains with the Nigerian Constitution and the people. He stated that the chairman must decide whether he wants to be remembered with honor or ignominy in Nigeria's democratic history.
