Ethiopia Records 10.7 Billion Dollars in Annual Export Revenue
Ethiopia generated a record 10.7 billion dollars in export revenue for the 2025/2026 fiscal year, driven largely by coffee and macroeconomic reforms.
The Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration reported that Ethiopia reached a historic milestone in the 2025/2026 fiscal year, generating over 10.7 billion dollars in export earnings. This figure represents a 29 percent increase over the previous year's 8.3 billion dollars and exceeded the government's target by 14 percent.
Minister Kassahun Gofe attributed the growth to macroeconomic reform efforts, improved market access, and increased foreign currency inflows. While gold, oilseeds, horticulture, and livestock products were key drivers, coffee remained the primary commodity, bringing in a record 3 billion dollars, up from 2.65 billion the previous year.
To protect these revenues, the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority implemented a digital tracing system using QR codes to comply with the European Union Deforestation Regulation. This system provides proof that coffee is not grown on deforested land. Adugna Debela stated that over 99 percent of Ethiopian coffee farms are deforestation-free. European Union experts are scheduled to visit Ethiopia next month to verify the country's production and traceability standards.
