European Parliament Approves Resolution Condemning Muslim Brotherhood
The European Parliament passed a resolution condemning the Muslim Brotherhood and calling for increased scrutiny of Islamist influence and foreign funding within European institutions.
The European Parliament approved a resolution condemning the Muslim Brotherhood and calling for intensified action against Islamist influence within European institutions. Sponsored by member Céline Imart and spearheaded by the center-right European People's Party, the measure warns that organized Islamist networks threaten democratic institutions, religious freedoms, and the rule of law.
The resolution urges greater transparency regarding EU funding for groups with suspected Brotherhood ties and calls for increased scrutiny of foreign funding originating from Qatar and Turkey. Additionally, lawmakers recommended that the European Council evaluate whether to add Brotherhood-linked entities to the official EU terrorist list.
While the resolution is not binding legislation, supporters describe it as a historic first step against Islamist entryism. The European Network Against Racism condemned the move as discriminatory, arguing that the resolution could unfairly target civil society and Muslim communities.
