France Deploys Military to Stop Planned Ultra-Left Insurrection
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced a massive security deployment and military reinforcements to prevent violent protests from reaching government buildings this Saturday.
Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced a massive security deployment for protests scheduled for Saturday to ensure an immediate return to order. Speaking before the National Assembly on Tuesday, Lecornu accused ultra-left radical groups of orchestrating an "insurrectionary plan" that triggered violent riots during the previous weekend's nationwide demonstrations over education funding and the cost of living.
The government warned it will not tolerate groups marching on the Elysée or Matignon. To support police and gendarmes in maintaining order, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez confirmed that the Sentinelle military force will be deployed to reinforce interior security forces.
