Australia Expands Solar Scheme and Removes Widow Tax

Minister for Energy and Climate Change Chris Bowen announced an expansion of the small-scale renewable energy scheme to include solar installations up to 1MW. This policy shift aims to reduce installation costs for agricultural, industrial, and commercial buildings by approximately 20%, intending to encourage the adoption of mid-scale solar power across these sectors.

In a separate legislative action, the Australian government announced the removal of the widow tax. To achieve this, the government will amend capital gains tax discount and negative gearing reforms. These changes are designed to protect specific tax concessions for widows, divorcees, and beneficiaries of certain trusts.
