Nvidia Launches $36 Billion Guarantee Program for Neoclouds

Nvidia is providing financial guarantees to specialized AI computing rental firms to help them secure loans amid rising borrowing costs and power shortages.

Nvidia is expanding financial support for neoclouds—specialized AI computing rental firms—to stabilize a sector struggling with high borrowing costs, power shortages, and construction delays. In July, the chip manufacturer launched a $36 billion program to guarantee payments for unused compute resources, helping these partners secure necessary loans.

As part of this strategy, Nvidia is currently negotiating to guarantee construction financing for a data center in West Virginia that Nscale is building for Anthropic. By supporting neoclouds, Nvidia maintains a customer base independent of cloud giants such as Amazon, Google, and Microsoft. However, the move exposes the company to significant risk, as it could become liable for multibillion-dollar real estate assets if its partners default.

Industry expectations point toward significant consolidation. Gartner predicts that 80% of neoclouds will cease independent operations by 2030 as capital aggregates around the largest players. Alex Yeh, CEO of GMI, noted that Nvidia must be selective with its capital support given the limited resources available even for a company of its size.
