Indian Markets Dip After Initial Gains on Nvidia Results

Indian benchmark indices opened higher on Thursday before declining due to pressure on auto and cement stocks despite strong Nvidia earnings and lower oil prices.

The Sensex and Nifty indices opened higher on Thursday, August 27, 2026, before sliding into negative territory during early trade. The Nifty fell to approximately 24,194.40 and the Sensex dropped to 77,452.09, with the downturn driven primarily by losses in cement and auto stocks.

Initial gains were fueled by positive global technology cues after Nvidia reported revenue of USD 96.2 billion, more than double its previous year's results. This earnings report initially lifted Asian markets and improved investor sentiment.

Market pressure was further eased by a third consecutive session of declining Brent crude prices. The price drop followed moderating concerns regarding supply disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz, which reduced the projected burden on India's import bill.
